On October 9 & 10, 2010, we had the distinct opportunity to attend
the Annual Convention of the Minnesota State Florists' Association in
Brooklyn Park, MN. During the Awards Banquet on Saturday night, we
received the humbling experience of being named the 2010 Retailer of the Year.
We were stunned, as we are a small community florist that is relatively
new to the floral industry. But we were assured that the award is not
given to the largest floral retailer, nor to the floral retailer who has
been in business the longest, but rather to "the active Association
member who has promoted high standards and professionalism not only to
the industry, but also to the community that they serve."

For nearly as long as Al & Annette Hentz have lived in Carver, they’ve dreamed of opening a flower shop in town. Annette has retailing in her blood; her mother single-handedly ran Isaacson’s General Store in rural Embarrass, Minnesota for sixteen years while Annette was growing up. Al used to work in his cousin’s flower shop in New Jersey when he was a teenager. Their yard in Carver Bluffs is full of flowers from early spring to late fall, evidence that Annette has been an avid gardener for 15 years.
So what held them back? Well, they both worked full-time – Al in Minnetonka and Annette in downtown Minneapolis – and the switch from long-time careers with substantial benefits to a fledgling enterprise in a small but growing town was a scary one. So they started Carver Country Flowers & Gifts on March 15, 2008 with limited very hours.
Since January, 2009, Carver Country Flowers & Gifts has become a full-time, full-service floral studio located inside a 140-year old historic building in downtown Carver. In our retail space you'll find flowers and arrangements in the cooler, flowering and green plants in the flower cart, silk floral wreaths on the walls, greeting cards on the rack, candles in the cupboards and other unique vintage/cottage home decor and gifts items on display. Generally, during the third weekend of every month the "occasional shops" in Carver are open -- these are antique/vintage/salvage shops that are open only three days every month. We invite you to patronize these shops as well as ours.
